Sleep Style

It's eleven o' clock and I'm not the night owl I used to be,
at least not on week nights.
Jake and I are getting ready for bed, part of my nightly routine is checking my e-mail,
this is in hopes that a class for tomorrow is cancelled.
No luck, in case you were wondering.

I get e-mails from a site called thenest.com.
I'm not really sure why...
I don't remember subscribing.
The e-mails usually get me to click on them though and tonight's was no different.
Everyone needs their sleepstyle decoded right?

Well, I do.

For those of you, like Jake and I, that usually fall asleep like this it means:
Lying like this shows you have a pure outlook on your marriage and you take on more traditional roles. The person on the outside likes to feel as if they can shield your marriage from problems, while the person on the inside is sensitive. Classic Spooners are supportive and never go to bed angry.

How sweet.

Every now and then, though, we fall asleep like this...

Having just one foot touching is more than enough contact for Footballers, who don’t need 24/7 TLC to feel close. You both have jam-packed schedules…and love it! Sure, you don’t spend as much quality time with each other as you’d like, but that makes those rare moments together special.

And we usually wake up like this...

Getting shut-eye in this position can simply mean you’re practical (hey, there’s plenty of room in that big bed) and like your leg room, but it may signal a bit of distance in your relationship.

However, we never never never sleep in boxers and belly shirts.

Thankful Thursday

1) I am thankful for the sense of excitement that I get every Thursday knowing that new episode of Grey's Anatomy is coming on that night...Thursday's are my favorite day of the week.

2) I'm thankful for the opportunity that I had to have the day off today, it's so nice to have a break.

3) I'm thankful that Leah is coming home from law school for spring break next week, I haven't seen her since the wedding.

4) The opportunity that I have several times a day to see the Oscar's commercial that has James Franco in it.

5) I'm thankful for the happy feeling that I get every time I look over and see Jake's wedding ring on his finger.

Anger

I'm watching Oprah right now and David Arquette is the guest.
He just said something that I really liked and I thought I would share...

Anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

I really like the way he said this because I don't think we realize that when we are angry it really doesn't hurt anyone but ourselves.  I know that I am quick to anger, it's something that I'm working on, but in getting angry, I expect for that to bother the other person and it really only hurts me.  I think this is a good way to think about anger. Thanks David.

Please, Kill Me Now

I have a night class...I'm sitting in it right now listening to a monotone, soft spoken professor.
The class is sitting in a circle so we can have a class discussion...this has turned into a one person discussion, involving only the professor.  She is a tiny woman who looks like she will break in half if I flick her.
The most exciting thing that has happen was when a girl across the circle from me got an itch in her throat and was excused by the teacher to get water. She got up in a frenzy and moved awkwardly through the maze of empty desks and slipped out the door...lucky.
My attention has also been drawn to the girl two desks down from mine that needs her roots done...yesterday!
She has bleach blonde hair and about a half inch of that hair closest to her head is is darker and makes it look like her hair doesn't actually start until after those roots.  It's strange looking.
This class is called Feminist Thought...it's a required course for my minor.
We are watching a video now about how music videos and society structure what men and women become and how they degrade women.
Pretty much clips of music videos with a bunch of girls dancing around half naked...there is a guy three desks down from me in the opposite direction of 'I desperately need my roots done' girl and he is laughing at the movie...inappropriate, don'tcha think?
That is definitely going to lead to using him as an example when my teacher starts man bashing at the conclusion of this video.
This is the lowest point of my week, and it's going to last for two more hours.
Don't worry about me though, I'll make it through, just like every Wednesday night...do me a favor and have a great night!

Night Time...Edited

My favorite part of the day is the night.  At night Jake and I are together, after a long day of separation.  We both work all day everyday when we aren't in school and so neither of us gets home until about 6 in the evening. Our evenings always seem so rushed trying to fit in cooking and eating dinner, going to the gym and taking showers and still get in bed at a decent time so that we can get up early and start another busy day.

So why is this my favorite time of day?
I like cooking and eating dinner because I like to hear Jake tell me that it was delicious.
I like going to the gym because we play racquetball together every night (a.k.a we make idiots of ourselves every night) we're not very good, but it is a lot of fun.

When we go to bed, the place for sleep and other fun things...like SCRABBLE.
Jake and I are pretty lame, every night before we go to sleep we play scrabble on the Ipod against random people.  We're cheaters though, we quit games if we are getting beat really bad, and we don't start a game if we think we have bad letters, we just delete it and start a different one. This could stem from the fact that we are sore losers...well, I am.

One night about a month ago, I decided to make a little romantic gesture.  Jake was in the shower, and so I got our actual Scrabble board game out of the closet and set it up on the bed to play when Jake got out.  Jake was beating me about three quarters of the way through the game and so I made up a word a played it.  Jake raised his eyebrows and let it slide.  I won that game.
Jake knows me and even loves my flaws.

Today, I Cut Doc In Half

Through these cold winter months Doc has been sporting a very fashionable, over sized winter coat

I personally like the hair that grows between his toes, I think it makes him look distinguished, I think Doc likes it too.

You know what Doc doesn't like? When he steps in his new baby sister's accident that's on the floor with all of that hair on his toes. Doc is usually the first to come across these accidents and then he comes and alerts his daddy immediately so it can be cleaned up.  He also doesn't like wearing his winter coat outside when it's over 65 degrees outside.  So, at Doc's request I cut his coat off today.

The results: He's as handsome as ever.

He feels great and is soooooo ready for spring time to officially begin!

Birth Control

Jake and I probably don't take the whole birth control thing as seriously as we should...lucky us, it's worked so far anyway.

This weekend we are babysitting three of our nieces and one of our nephews.  Let's just say after going from taking care of just Jake to taking care of Jake plus four...birth control = CHECK.

Thankful Thursday

Yesterday we celebrated this girl and today is a brand new day and we get to celebrate this one

Who is this? This is the other best sister in the world, HALEY.  Haley turned 17 today.  Yeah, her birthday is the day after Jordan's.  Sometimes I feel left out...not really, I like having my own birthday month!

Since today is Thankful Thursday and Haley's birthday it is going to be all about her!

I'm thankful for:
1) The way in which she has handled the last couple of years in her life, it's been impressive, and she has set quite the example.
2) The sweet little spirit that she brought into this world last year.
3) That she can be silly.
4) That she so obviously cares so much about all of those that she loves.
5) That I know she will always be there if I need her and will do anything to help.

Could You Do Me A Favor?

I was hoping that you sweet people out there reading my blog could do me a little favor.  You see over there to the left there is little section called Followers? Well I would LOVE IT if you would push that button that says follow if you enjoy reading the things that go through my head on a daily basis.
It would just mean the world to me, even if you don't know me personally, I would love to get to know you and know that you like my little corner of the universe over here.
Here's to new friends and followers!

Happy Birthday Sister

Happy Birthday to one of the BEST two sisters in the world!

This is Jordan.  She's my sister, and it's her birthday!

Jordan is known to be a picture whore, so to celebrate her birthday we are going to take a look at a few of my favorite Jordan pictures.  GET EXCITED!

Happy 21st Jordan!

He's so excited

Jake has reached his beard goal.
My sister told my him she was going to start calling him Zac.
He looked at her very confused and asked why?
She said BECAUSE YOUR BEARD LOOKS LIKE ZAC BROWN'S.

Jake smiled for the rest of the day.

I think the fact that Jake was wearing a toboggan definitely contributed.

They Weren't So Bad

If there is one thing that I truly despise more than anything in this world it is tomatoes.  Lame, huh? There are a lot of other better things that I could spend my time despising.  People find the fact that I hate tomatoes to be very interesting. Upon finding out I usually get that person's head tilted to the side with a "hmm...really? What do you mean?"  What  I mean is that I HATE tomatoes...and ketchup...and spaghetti sauce.  I like pizza, but I do order VERY light, almost non-existent sauce.  Believe me, this is not a fact about me that I like.  For as long as I can remember I have really desperately wanted to like tomatoes and all of those other foods that I listed that so many people love.

But guess what! This past weekend our good friends Jillian and TK had so over for dinner and a movie.  Jillian asked me if there was anything that Jake and I didn't like just to be sure that she didn't make anything that we wouldn't be excited about.  I told her that Jake would eat anything and that the only thing that I would prefer not to see was...can you guess?...that's right, tomatoes!

So the next day Jillian texted me and told me she was planning to make a really killer taco soup and just wanted to say that tomatoes are included but it isn't chunks of tomatoes would that be ok?  I was intrigued as I thought about my answer to that.  I love tacos!!!  Every night at my house would be taco night if Jake would let me get away with it.  Taco soup had to be similar to tacos right?  So I went along with it, and spent the rest of the afternoon excited about the taco part and psyching myself up for the tomato part.

The rest of the day flew by in a frenzy and before I knew it I was sitting in front of a plate of what smelled and looked like delicious soup.  I didn't give myself time to question or think about the tomatoes that were on my taco salad concoction I had put together and just took the first bite.  It was good.  It was really good.  Before I knew it I had seconds and wasn't thinking about a bit about the tomatoes.  I was very proud of myself in my head.  Inside I was telling those tomatoes to take that, I'm not scared of you anymore!  I'm not getting carried away though, I don't want anyone making me a tomato sandwich anytime soon but, you know what? Ever since dinner that night, I've actually been craving to have it again!

Who would've thought that tomatoes weren't actually that bad?

On this Day in History

Since I have no idea what Jake and I will be doing tonight, I thought I would tell you a little about our first Valentine's Day...last year.

Last year we talked about Valentine's Day several weeks before the big day.  We were not engaged yet, but knew that that is where things were heading, and so we decided that we weren't going to get each other gifts in order to save money...ya know, be practical and all that.

Well, the day arrived, it was a Sunday.  After church we came back to my house where I made delicious chicken alfredo for a semi-romantic lunch (can lunch really be romantic? At noon with your roommate eating with you?)  Right, so we will go with semi-romantic.

Then it happened...after lunch...as I was scrubbing left over alfredo sauce off of our dishes...I heard it...snoring.  Jake fell asleep as I was washing the dishes that held the remains of a romantic gesture that I had worked to create in the name of Valentines Day.

So I finished the dishes and went upstairs to my room to watch a movie so that Jake would get the full guilt trip effect when he woke up and realized he had left me alone on couple's day.  I mean really...I was expecting cuddling and movie watching and dessert and maybe a surprise from Jake even though we agreed not to do that...not falling asleep as I did the little lady's work.

Then it happened...it felt like the world was caving in right on top of my head...a migraine...yeah, I get those.  Around the time my uninvited friend came a knocking in my head, lo and behold, Jake wakes up.

As I lay in the fetal position in my bed crying, due the fact that the migraine wasn't the company that I wanted and that the company that I did want was asleep on the couch downstairs, a shadowy figure appeared in my doorway.

Jake came to me, maybe thinking that I was asleep and began to whisper in my ear how sorry he was that he fell asleep.  This whispering sounded like a fire alarm in my head and I pushed him away as I said it was o.k. and told him about my head.

He left right away to go to Bi-Lo right down the street to get some medicine and came back with not only medicine but a sweet  card and a box of chocolate.

Boy knows how to apologize...and be a knight in shimmering armor. (Anyone know the movie reference?)

I don't know what Jake's plans are for tonight, but he assures me that he has some.  I can't wait to fill you in!

What was your favorite Valentine's Day?

Thankful Thursday

Today I'm thankful for
- Peanut butter M&M's...they are melt in my mouth delicious and as I sit here eating a bag of them and contemplating my trip to the gym that is to take place in a few hours I can't help but wonder how so much peanut buttery goodness is packed into such a tiny little package.
- The babies Jake and I will have...I like to think about them and the sweet names that we will name them...doesn't every girl do that?
- Self discovery...I've just recently discovered that I love white cheddar popcorn and Dole Orange Peach Mango juice...I seem to be thankful for a lot of food this week.
- that my hair is now long enough to pull it all to one side and braid it
- That Jake surprised me by showing up to my basketball practice tonight...i'm married to quiet the trickster.

What are you thankful for?

So it's fight, fight, fight for Carolina

‎"To legions of otherwise reasonable adults, it is a conflict that surpasses sports; it is locals against outsiders, elitists against populists, even good against evil… The rivalry may be a way of aligning oneself with larger philosophic ideals — of choosing teams in life — a tradition of partisanship that reveals the pleasures and even the necessity of hatred"
Will Blythe

It's Here.

Arguably the biggest game between the biggest rivals in college basketball...it's TONIGHT.

I hope to see a little of this...

and A LOT of this...

Why are you a Carolina Fan?

Tuesday's Tunes...on Wednesday

Yesterday was so busy, I hardly had time to sit down and prop my feet up and snuggle Jake.

Speaking of Jake, every month on the 8th he brings home flowers for me...You see we got married on the 8th of October...before that, be brought me flowers every month on the 2nd because we started dating on the 2nd of some month long ago.  It's really so sweet to see him come in holding flowers out towards me, so proud of himself that he remembered and that they make me so happy.

You know what else makes me happy? Holding a baby...they are so cute and my new friend Jillian has one of the cutest babies ever.  Last night I went to Enrichment, Jillian was presenting for part of the time and, so I got hold this baby for a little while.  It's so nice to have a new friend in our ward.  They are the sweetest little family and I hope to be as cute of a little mama as Jillian is.
Jillian and Aiden
You know what I did after Enrichment?  I met a couple of horny dirt bags...at least, that's what Jake called them.  Enrichment lasted a little longer than I thought it was going to and as I was talking to Jake on the way home he said that he would love nothing more than for me to bring home a stuffed crust pizza.  Seeing as he brought me flowers and all earlier that day how could I say no?  So off I went to the Pizza Hut to pick up our romantic dinner and I pull of to the window and this is the conversation that followed

Horny Dirt bag: (looks me up and down...you know the look) Hey, how YOU doing?
Me: I'm good...do you have an order for Watson ready?
Horny Dirtbag: I sure do, it'll be $12.48...(leans down on to the window) so what bring you to Pizza Hut tonight?
Me: umm, my order.
Horny Dirtbag: Do you come here a lot?
Me: Only when it's what my husband wants for dinner.
Horny dirtbag:  Ohh, what's your husband up to tonight?
Me: He's at home. Did you say my order was ready?
Horny dirtbag: Let me go check again. Now that i'm thinking about it, I don't think that it is.
Me: ok.
Horny Dirt bag: It's almost ready, just another minute, they'll bring it to you when it's done...you come back real soon Carly (as he read my name off of his copy of my receipt.

This was all obnoxious, funny, flattering and ridiculous at the same time.  I had a friend on the phone the whole time and she thought it was the funniest thing she had heard all day while it was happening, but it's nice to know that the Pizza Hut guys think that I've still got it.

Once I finally made it home to spend some quality time with my hubs it was 9 o' clock.  We ate our pizza and watched Modern Family, and laughed and laughed and laughed at that show.

So there it is, my long day yesterday...exciting right?  So for all of those that were looking forward to Tuesday's Tunes, here is the song that I chose yesterday but didn't have time to write about...it's the new Rascal Flatts song, and I thought it was fitting for the day since Jake and I have not been married for four months.

P.S. Can I just say how smokin' hot Joe Don is?  He has a terrible name, but good grief, isn't he nice to look at?

Monday Laughs

I believe that Sunday night and Monday constitute the most depressing time of each week.  This time signals the end of the freedom that comes with the weekend and the beginning of the monotony of another week of school and work.  This pictures helped me lighten the mood for today, I laugh every time I see them...Here's to a happy Monday.

That face isn't for the baby it's for the spit up coming out of the baby

Give 'em a break

Being a person that doesn't care very much about football, I look forward to the Super Bowl for the commercials and the halftime show.  In the recent years since the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson wardrobe mishap the halftime show has been flooded with aging rockstars reliving their glory days.  Don't get me wrong,  different people like different kinds of music and Jake likes classic rock, but these halftime shows have left me bored and disappointed.  It's about time rock sat a year out and gave someone else a chance.

Let me just start by saying that I really like Fergie, so I am biased, but I thought the Black Eyed Peas did a good job, I was thoroughly entertained.  I loved the body suits on all of the dancers and all of the LED effects.  I think that when people perform a song differently than it has ever been performed (cough cough, Sweet Child of Mine) people freak out that it is so bad...I don't think it was bad, I think that Fergie made it her own, you gotta give the girl props.

So, every one, lay off, give them a break, they delivered what anyone would expect from The Black Eyed Peas, a visually appealing and entertaining show, and you can't ask for much more than that.

Delish...as in delicious

Yeah, I'm not really sure if Delish is the correct way to spell the shortened version of delicious, but that's how I spell it and this is my blog after all so that is what we are going to go with here.

Tonight we went to our friends, Drew and Katie's house for pizza night with a few other couples.  We had a really good time and good conversation.  I got to hold the cutest babies and make them laugh and smile.

After we left there we decided that a dessert was in order before we make it all the way home and didn't have any and so we went to Chili's.  Let me just say that I have been known to go to Chili's just to get this dessert and a Shirley Temple, and so I was thrilled with Husband asked if I wanted to go...Hello, does he know me at all? Of course I want to go!

Soooo here is a little something to get you drooling...Who wants to go to Chili's with us?

Love and Friday Night Fun

If there is one thing that defines my husband it is that he LOVES his family.  He is one of six boys and I think that the relationship that they all have is truly inspiring. They hug each other all the time and never end a conversation without saying "love ya man."  Sometimes the entire point of a phone call is just to tell each other that they love them and just wanted to see what they were up to.  In the last year and however many months that I have known Jake and his family and had a front row seat to this I have tried to let it wash over me.  I love these little bits of love and kindness that they show each other.  I have never been one to just tell someone I love them, even if I do, I used to think that it was a phrase that had a tendency to be overused, but I don't think you can overuse that phrase.  Jake tells me that he loves me, I kid you not, no less than 20 times a day, and I relish in those words every time they pass his lips.  As I have gotten to know his family I have truly fallen in love with all of them as well and those words pass my lips easily in daily interaction with them, with all of the conviction that I have that they are true.

Speaking of family...check out this sweet one
This is Jake's brother Jason, his wife Jaylyn and their five kids Adeline, Jeffrey, Porter, Miranda and Roy. You don't get much cuter than this.  Jake and I love to go over to Jason and Jaylyn's house, the food is always so good and Jaylyn always has fresh pineapple, YUM! The conversation always flows and these two are so funny.  Their kids are a hoot as well.  Tonight Adeline told me some spy secrets and Miranda and Roy couldn't wait to eat the cookies we brought over.  They are so fun to be with.  I love that I gained sixteen nieces and nephews in this whole marriage deal, they are all so sweet and snuggly.  We watched a movie called The Trial tonight.  It was oddly similar to a lifetime movie and filmed here in Charlotte.  Jake picked it out and when it was over he hated himself for it.  Jaylyn and I liked it even through it's unrealistic jury verdict...go figure.

So thank you for all of the fun Jason and Jaylyn, we ALWAYS love coming and hanging out with you guys and maybe Jake will get his movie picking act together for next time.

Family is such a blessing.  Jake and I have been blessed with two really large families and we love it.  It is something that I often take for granted but in those moments when I realize just how important it is and how much of my heart my family consumes it is astonishing that such a thing can be forgotten in the run of the mill typical life of this full time student and worker and wife.

So in case we don't say it enough, thank you family, we love you more than you  know and more than anything we love spending our time with you.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful for...
- Husband's usual good health...he's been sick lately and it's pitiful-I don't handle Jake being sick very well, i'm not used to that and I get really dramatic when something is wrong and think that it is never going to end...hopefully husband being sick ends SOON!
- My sweet dog who comes and lays really close to me and rests his head on my lap when I cry...I don't cry that much, but he's sitting here next to me and I'm thankful for him.
- Using my not feeling well this morning to buy myself a day of no school...It wasn't a lie, I really don't feel that well, but I probably could have made through my day of classes.
- Fresh pineapple...the kind from Aldi that is like a dollar and popping it in my mouth to have the juice explode and think that that if heaven had a taste it would probably be very similar.
- The great family that I married into...sixteen nieces and nephews...5 brothers and sisters-in-law...mom and pop-in-law...lots of hugs...lots of love...I lucked out.

What are you thankful for?

Tuesday's Tunes...

Today as I was driving to school and bobbing my head to the beat of the music coming from my speakers I had a thought. I believe that there are certain songs that define us or parallel our lives and today as I was pretending that I was in the spotlight on stage in New York City with my name flashing in lights outside of the theater in which I was performing one of those songs came on the radio.  Don't laugh, ok?  "My Baby Loves Me Just the Way That I am," by Martina McBride came on and I instantly added it to my life's soundtrack.  Yes, I do think that all of these songs that speak to me on a deeper level come together to create my life's soundtrack and today another track was added.  I've heard this song before and as I was singing my duet with Martina I couldn't help but smile and think of Jake.

Fun Fact: When I was little I wanted nothing more than to transform into Celine Dion over night and become a singing superstar! I would go into my little brother's and sister's rooms when they were still small enough to have baby monitors in them and sing my little heart out into that monitor, knowing that my mom was listening so that I could come out and have her tell me how great I was.  Turns out she wasn't telling me the whole truth all of those years because I can't carry a tune.  Instead of retiring to Vegas I'm retired to my car.
